Omikuji Fortune
Draw a sacred fortune slip from the shrine
Omikuji (御神籤) are the sacred fortune lots of Japanese shrines and temples, dating back to the Heian period (794–1185 CE) — over 1,000 years of tradition. Visitors shake a wooden box or pull a paper strip to receive a fortune ranging from Dai-kichi (great blessing) to Dai-kyo (great misfortune), with specific guidance on love, health, travel, and studies. Tens of millions of omikuji are drawn at New Year alone.
